‘Something big is going to happen …’ S Jaishankar’s big prediction on next two years, direct message to China too

Jaishankar was speaking in a discussion organized by Delhi -based Thinktank Observer Research Foundation after the Munich Security Conference last week. A few days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to America, Jaishankar presented a clear picture of some changes in the next 2 years.

How will China dominate less?
One way to reduce China’s dominance in Asia is that India should be given permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council. India has been trying for this for decades, but China has been continuously putting it in it. Four of the five permanent members of the UNSC have supported India’s claim. If this happens, it will help to reduce China’s dominance in Asia.
But as long as this happens, India would like to see Quad more active. It is a diplomatic and military group of Quad Australia, India, Japan and America, whose main objective is to prevent China’s influence and aggression in the Indo-Pacific region.
70 -year -old Jaishankar said, “I was surprised to see that this government (Donald Trump) started his first foreign policy with Quad.” He said, ‘What is the best thing about quad? There is no cost of any kind in this… Everyone comes, pays their bill, all are equal. If we are seeing a different kind of structure, a different meaning of the power of America.
Difference between NATO and quad
Jaishankar was probably comparing it to the model of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) here. NATO is a military alliance of 32 countries in Europe and North America, which US gives two-thirds of the annual budget.
President Donald Trump has been a bitter critic of the policy of NATO’s annual budget to the US. ,Countries like Germany and Poland, one of NATO member countries, have increased their defense spending, while many other European countries have not even given a minimum of 2% of GDP, which according to the new cost-sharing formula in 2019 Was made mandatory by military alliance.
Trump will increase the focus on the quad!
According to Jaishankar, it is becoming a common opinion among influential groups in America that if the US frees itself from its foreign commitments and relationships, it will be in its interest. Therefore, Jaishankar’s example is probably indicating that Trump, who has an aggressive stance towards China, can raise his attention on Quad, which was slightly stagnant under the Biden administration in the US.
In his meeting last week, Trump and Modi also agreed to form a new defense partnership outline for 2035. The agreement is expected to be finalized by the end of this year. While on one hand both countries are talking on the complicated issue of tariffs, on the other hand, the growing power of China is a common concern for both countries. That is why India and America need to come together on the global stage .
